Even though this is Michael Børresen’s least expensive floorstander it’s still quite a pricey design, yet the quality of build, finish and ultimately sound indicate that this is not exactly a compromised loudspeaker. It makes me wonder what can be achieved with the bigger X6 at twice the price and the M series models at significantly more, but it looks like excellent value on its own right. The driver choices and cabinet construction mean that the Børresen X3 should hold its own against the best that the competition can offer at this price point, an audition is highly recommended."

"CONCLUSION
I think it’s fair to say I liked the X3s from Børresen a great deal and I do think they set the current standard for speakers (that I’ve heard) at this price, and I do think in that respect they could well be seen as game-changers – they certainly had me considering what the future holds for our reference speakers in the big system. However, for the moment that crown still belongs to the Audiovector R6 loudspeakers, though I’m not sure the difference is fifteen or more grands-worth of better and I am looking forward to hearing the Børresen X6s.
The finish on the X3s is excellent but you are limited to black or white and I’m not sure that is going to please everyone, and I would have liked to have perhaps seen the option for wooden finishes. However, beggars can’t be choosers and Audio Group Denmark make no secret of these cabinets (not the drivers or crossovers) being built in China to keep costs down and get the quality of cabinet they wanted – there’s no way they could get this quality of sound for this price had the cabinets been built in Denmark.
The main takeaways from my time with the X3s is that they offer a dynamic and detailed listening experience with an imaging quality that is wide, what I consider to be accurate and not exaggerated. However, this is in the sweetspot and the sweetspot band is quite narrow…ish.
I think it’s fair to say that once they are run-in properly these speakers impressed me a great deal and that most of the criticisms of their performance I have made have been me specifically looking for faults in them – that’s my job, after all!
Would I buy them? Yes, in a heartbeat, but I want to hear the X6s in our system first!
I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that the Børresen X3 loudspeakers are fully deserving of HiFi PiG’s top award. They are superb!"

If you haven’t gathered by this point what a staggeringly good loudspeaker the Børresen X3 is, let me put aside any further subtleties. This speaker not only offers excellent performance, soaring well above its loss-leader asking price, but it also offers exceptional value! If AGD had placed a twenty-two, or even a twenty-five-thousand-dollar MSRP on the Børresen X3 loudspeakers, I wouldn’t bat an eye at those asking prices. This speaker is THAT good.
It may be the last speaker most burgeoning music lover/audiophiles will ever need. On the other hand, if you’re anywhere near as fanatical as me, they just may be your gateway to a further journey into the hyper-audio realm. Bravo, AGD. I wonder if my wife would be upset if I got a pair for our living room?"

Det er ikke så ofte jeg har testet høyttalere hvor jeg i etterkant
sitter med en følelse av å ha hørt noe som er litt nytt. Kanskje ikke
i den store verdenen av highend-høyttalere, men i hvert fall i denne
prisklassen. Børresen er jo ikke akkurat nybegynnere, og det som
X3 er i stand til å yte av lydkvalitet er det lett å finne i deres mer
kostbare høyttalere. Dens imponerende kjappe og lette spillestil er
perfekt balanserte med høyttalerens klangsignatur. Selv når det
er som mest hektisk i det røslige lydbildet, blir det aldri spisst eller
hardt, men overraskende nok ganske avslappet og preget av en
sober klangbalanse som aldri kommer over på den «gale» siden av
nøytralt.
Rundt 100 000 kroner finnes det ganske mye å velge mellom, og
det er et stort antall høyttalere med vidt forskjellige egenskaper.
Likevel står Børresen X3 frem som en høyttaler du absolutt må høre
på før du handler høyttalere i denne prisklassen."
