Jeg har sakset inn noen klipp fra innlegg siste døgn på et av flere amerikanske diskusjonsfora jeg deltar på:
1; TX has about doubled since 26 May (32.9 cases per 1 mil to 59.6). AZ has gone from 44.9 / 1 mil to 164.5 (increase of 3.7x) since 26 May. We have a disproportionate share of the 40%. The guv here doesn't wear a mask, won't allow local governments to implement mask/distancing regs.
2; NYC is trending down mainly because they had such a large peak, much larger at that point than California or any other state. And NYC is still largely shut down. After it’s initial modest surge up, California has been essentially in a more or less linearly increasing trend for the past 2 months. We were never locked down hard enough to to completely quench the spread, just enough to suppress it from becoming exponential. As people slowly relaxed their diligence over time, spread naturally increased. As of late, the new weekly cases seems to show an increasing upward slope, which seems likely to increase further over the next few weeks with greatly increased opening. My SIL in SoCal drove in to a mall today to try and drop something off, and found the parking lot completely packed. That’s a horrible sign for the near and medium future.
3; Even though Napa had, and still has, the lowest case count in the Bay area, people were chomping at the bit to reopen.
I get it. We are a tourist destination. Our economy depends on it. It still just blows my mind the blatant disregard for public safety, and the safety of people like me and your wife, who are compromised.
At this point I'm just to the point where I'm saying fvck it. Let the reckless assholes have their day. I'll keep doing what I'm doing to keep myself safe. Hopefully other people in my situation will too. It's just easier for me since I live alone. I just feel bad for the people who do not and have selfish assholes dragging their germs home to them.
4; Huge spikes here coinciding with ‘opening back up’ approx 2 weeks ago, new records every day for new cases and hospitalizations .
5; “Why is he wearing a mask?” As I walked up to a roulette table at the Cosmopolitan on Friday night, I couldn’t help but hear the young woman ask her friend about my facial covering. I knew she was talking about me because as I scanned the casino floor, I was the only non-employee wearing a mask.
Welcome to the new Las Vegas, where the coronavirus pandemic is in the mental rear-view mirror of many visitors, and mask shaming is in vogue for some tourists trying to return to normal.
6;
So, the Ohio Health Director, Amy Acton, has resigned, and will be an advisor to Gov Mike DeWine. She has been under political pressure to open things up, and has been sued by a number (8) of bars/restaurants to end restrictions.
*double sigh*
