Joda.
om skiva, fra: http://grusin.net/n_y___l_a__dream_band.htm,David Grusin (born June 26, 1934) is an American composer, arranger and pianist. Grusin has composed many scores for feature films and television, and he has won numerous awards for his soundtrack work. Although he has worked in many musical styles, Grusin is often thought of as a jazz or smooth jazz artist. In his soundtrack work he has forged a signature sound of largely strings- and piano-dominated, through-composed themes with a solid melodic foundation, often injecting strong jazz sensibilities and fusing pop and classical stylings.
Featuring
Lee Ritenour, (electric & acoustic guitar), Anthony Jackson (bass, bass guitar, contrabass guitar, electric guitar), Steve Gadd (drums), Tiger Okoshi (trumpet flugelhorn), Eric Gale (electric piano), George Young (tenor, baritone, soprano & alto saxophone, flute, piccolo), Rubens Bassini (percussion), Don Grusin (piano, electric piano, synthesizer, clavinet, fender rhodes)
Arranged by Dave Grusin & Andrew J. Marsala
Produced by Dave Grusin & Larry Rosen
This was it! GRP #1 - the very first recording in the stream of great music which led the record company to consistently remain at the top of jazz labels for years - in terms of sales, music and technical quality.
It might well be said that Dave Grusin has had the best of all worlds, being equally at home producing and playing with the very best musicians on both coasts of the US - local performers who represent the state of the art at their own instruments
But to combine the distinctive sounds of East and West coasts, to assemble the best of these distinctive worlds of jazz, that was the vision Dave Grusin had in mind when he first started planning this album which would combine fusion, film music and a 14-minute concerto for orchestra and jazz instrumentalists.
A live recording date at Tokyo's Budokan was the fulfillment of that dream. Dave Grusin's concept of the perfect combination of musicians from New York and Los Angeles - was realized in the N.Y./L.A. Dream Band. And to top it off, the performance was recorded on video.
Doldinger's recurring jazz project Passport, started in 1971 (then called "Klaus Doldinger´s Passport"), still enjoys huge success in Germany. In its influence it was sometimes called the European version of Weather Report. [3]
At various times members of Passport included Peter OMara (guitar), Roberto DiGioia (keyboards), Patrick Scales (bass, since 1994), Ernst Stroer (de:Ernst Ströer) (percussion, since 1989), Christian Lettner (drums, since 2000), Michael Hornek (keyboard since 2009), Biboul Darouiche (percussion, since 1995) and others. Guests include Brian Auger (1973), Johnny Griffin (1973) and Pete York (1973).[4]

"In his brief career before dying at age 25 in an automobile accident, Clifford Brown became one of the most influential trumpeters in jazz, with a rich brassy sound, an almost classical precision, and a clarion fluency of line that would inspire players from Lee Morgan to Terence Blanchard. While string settings have had a mixed reception in jazz, beloved by some musicians while rejected outright by purist listeners, Brown's is one of the more successful. The arrangements by Neal Hefti provide lush settings for the trumpeter's gorgeous sound, while Brown's usual bandmates--pianist Richie Powell, bassist George Morrow, and drummer Max Roach--provide some necessary propulsion. "Laura" and "Stardust" have seldom been caressed with the romance and grace heard here." --Stuart Broomer
