Billy D and The Hoodoos, en kar som har vært med en stund men som ganske nylig har gitt ut eget album.

Billy D and the Hoodoos are a musical group from Portland, Oregon, U.S.[1]

Born on the south side of Chicago, Billy Desmond grew up influenced by early rock music and blues. Billy began his career playing professionally at teen dances and parties at the age of fourteen, and by eighteen he was sneaking in Chicago blues clubs to hear greats like Muddy Waters, Junior Wells, Buddy Guy and James Cotton. Eventually, Billy would work with Wells and other blues legends such as Big Time Sarah, Robert Cray and Detroit Junior, among others.

Billy led his first band, Skid City Blues, as lead guitarist, singer and songwriter touring the Midwest during the 1970s. By 1984, Billy moved to Los Angeles, California, and studied with established artist Tony Matthews, and played for Little Richard and Ray Charles. Billy spent half a year playing guitar for Don "Sugarcane" Harris, considered by some as one of the world's greatest blues violinist.

The mid-1990s found Billy in Santa Fe, New Mexico, focusing on developing his original music. About this time, Billy D and the HooDoos materialized. They were the opening act for Los Lonely Boys and Robert Cray at the KTAO 2003 Annual Solar Fest in New Mexico, and his original song, "She's The One", was then voted the number one song by a local area artist.

Billy relocated to Portland, Oregon, in 2010. His CD, "Somethin's Wrong", has been well received and Billy regularly promotes his music through his website and by performing in local pacific northwest venues as well as festivals and venues across the US. He is known for his unique stage presence and big, effortless sound.

Billy's unique style transcends traditional blues music:[1]“ My main Electric Axe is a Suhr—custom made by a guy named John Suhr who was out of California when I got the guitar about 8 years ago. It's a Telecaster style body—both body and neck are made of mahogany—with a rosewood fingerboard with simple dot inlay. I love Humbuckers—the neck pickup is a Rio Grande "Texas Humbucker" and the bridge pickup is a Seymour Duncan "Hotrail", which is a squished double-coil that fits perfectly into a cutout originally designed for a single-coil. I use the Rio Grande most of the time 'cuz I love that fat mellow singing tone.[1] ”


Videos of Billy D and The Hoodoos performing original compositions from the CD have been uploaded to YouTube have brought high visibility and increased his fan base in the US, Canada and Europe.

In 2013, the title track of Billy's album "Somethin's Wrong" won the UK Songwriting competition Jazz/Blues category. In August of that same year, Billy D and the HooDoos won the Sin City Soul and Blues Revival video contest landing them a slot in that Las Vegas festival.

Den boksen fikk jeg i dag også fra elusivedisc, betalte ca. 350$ med frakt for 45rpm utgaven på no tilbud de hadde forrige uke. Fikk nr. 506, noe overaskende da jeg trodde det var solgt mere av denne boksen. Gleder meg som et barn til å snurre den igang!

Kunne tenkt meg den SRV boksen, men til over 600,- pr plate blir det bare for spinnvilt. For meg i alle fall.

Må vel si at jeg er ihuga SRV fan. Har faktisk vært å tatt på "statuen" og trasket "gaten" (6th street) i Austin. Det slår meg ofte att akk så gæli det var at denne karen forsvant for nå - mange år siden. Dog er jeg litt "sjepisk" til de såkalte "nyutgivelsene" men denne vinyl boksen virker til å være bra greier.
Etter å ha opplevd at CDn har gått i dass med lyd (I alle fall enkelte utgivelser) har jeg vurdert alternativ til voldtatt CD lyd - og sitter nå på Jeff Beck "live at Ronnie Scotts" på CD, DVD, Blue Ray og nå Vinyl. Syntes alle låter veldig bra, så da kjøpte jeg på meg Joe Bonamassa på vinyl - da jeg syntes Live DVDene låter bæsj, nyter dog musikken. Konklusjonen etter å ha handlet J.B vinyl var fortsatt at her har han-som-skruer-på-lyd fått i seg noe som ikke er bra - for makan til sjit lyd har jeg sjeldent hørt!

Så før jeg handler noe - er dette bedre enn orginal vinylene (har orginal pressingene fra den tiden de kom ut)? Vil gjerne høre hva voksne ører mener og ikke nødvendig vis Stereophile

Jeg har ikke de originale å sammenligne med, men disse lp platene er de jeg har så langt som låter absolutt best.
Konklusjonen fra analogplanet fra 33rpm boxen:
"There’s not a bad record in the set, which is good since these titles are not separately available. It's all or nothing. Unless you are not fan, or hate electric blues based music, I don't hear how you can go wrong.


As far as the sound here goes, if your system can do it, if you crank up Couldn’t Stand the Weather, Soul to Soul or The Sky Is Crying, the experience will be as close to “live” as you’re likely to hear from a rock recording. The cymbal precision and extension knocked me out—in a good way.The louder the better!


To sum it up: this is an impeccably produced box set physically and especially sonically. It’s the best these albums have ever and probably will ever sound"

John Mayall er vel kanskje det mest strukturerte og forutsigbare artisten jeg har hatt gleden av å få jobbe litt med på promotionsiden. Det var like over midten av åttitallet, så han var clean og så buff at det var direkte mistenkelig... Fin fyr, forresten. Tok med liveplaten Behind The Iron Curtain for signering siden det var med samme band som han turnerte med. Da han så den lo han og fastslo at nå visste han hvem den andre personen som kjøpte platen var.

Er noen år siden det ble slutt men blei flere år på rad arrangert Blues festival her på Lillehammer. Mayall var der 1 om ikke 2 ganger, men klarte jeg å komme meg dit ? Nei du !!!
Ikke spør meg hvorfor men må har vært bevisstløs i gjerningsøyeblikket .

Er noen år siden det ble slutt men blei flere år på rad arrangert Blues festival her på Lillehammer. Mayall var der 1 om ikke 2 ganger, men klarte jeg å komme meg dit ? Nei du !!!
Ikke spør meg hvorfor men må har vært bevisstløs i gjerningsøyeblikket .

Jeg vil rett og slett kalle Mayall en ekte norgesvenn. Han har turnert landet på kryss og tvers, og etterhvert ble han så lommekjent her i landet at han var sin egen roadmanager og booket de fleste konsertene personlig. Men han slengte alltid noen konserter til oss i Slideback som hadde vært med på å bygge opp populariteten hans som liveartist i Norge på åttitallet, før han anså seg selv som kompetent til å ta over jobben. Fair og square det. Han hadde jo ingen kontrakt med oss lenger.

Btw, det er fint å ha vært tett på. Det gir meg mye å mimre over nå som jeg begynner å merke at jeg ikke er en ungfole lenger.
