Litt for langt inne på russisk territorium til å være innen rekkevidde for en ukrainsk S-200. Så det kan ha vært enten en ukrainsk Patriot eller en russisk S-200 eller lignende, bemannet av en overivrig mobik.
Alltid i den retninga eg tenkjer når eg høyrer at “han døde av naturlege årsaker”.

Det sies at backfire’n ble truffet på vei tilbake etter å ha skutt missiler mot Odesa, nok en terrorbombing mot sivile mål. Missilet traff ca 200 km fra ukrainsk grense, men bomberen greide å fly et stykke videre før brannen hadde spredt seg så mye at den mistet kontroll og gikk i flatspinn. Burn & crash, i den rekkefølgen.
S-200 har rekkevidde 250-300 km, alt etter missilvariant. 217 kg stridshode i Mach 4, tydeligvis med modernisert styringssystem og noe mobilt å skyte den ut fra. Håper Ukraina har mange fler på lager. Patriot rekker ca 100-160 km.

Tilsvarende toppledere som trekker seg midt i en skandale fordi de føler akutt behov for å tilbringe mer tid med familien, imaginær eller ei.

Ödesstund för Ukraina när USA:s representanthus röstar om stödpaket
I kväll avgörs det som har kallats för en ödesstund för Ukraina. Vid 19-tiden svensk tid röstar USA:s representanthus om mer stöd till bland annat Ukraina. Men omröstningen är även en ödesstund för talmannen, som riskerar att bli avsatt, om paketet går igenom.

I følge New York Times i alle fall er alle tre pakkene (Ukraina, Israel og Taiwan) forventet å passere med stort flertall. Det er også strukturert slik ta eventuell motstand mot en av delene ikke kan velte hele lasset. Pillen er sukret med en fjerde avstemming om Tik og Tok og sanksjoner mot Iran.

Lawmakers were expected on Saturday afternoon to vote separately on aid for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan, as well as on another bill that includes a measure that could result in a nationwide ban of TikTok and new sanctions on Iran. The fourth bill was meant to sweeten the deal for conservatives.
Mr. Johnson structured the measures, which will be melded into one after each piece is approved, to capture different coalitions of support without allowing opposition to any one element to sink the whole deal. Each of the aid bills for the three nations is expected to pass overwhelmingly. The Senate is expected to take up the legislation as soon as Tuesday and send it to President Biden’s desk, capping its tortured path to enactment.
The House passed the 21st Century Peace through Strength Act with a bipartisan vote of 360-58.
The bill includes national security priorities, including sanctions on Iran, the seizure of frozen Russian sovereign assets and a measure that could lead to a nationwide ban of TikTok.
Remember: The House is also voting on three separate bills to provide foreign aid to Ukraine, Israel and the Indo-Pacific region. If the bills pass the House, the legislation will be combined into one amendment before being sent to the Senate.

The $95 billion package contains $61 billion for Ukraine and regional partners.
One of the bills would provide nearly $61 billion to assist Ukraine and others in the region fight Russia – about the same that was included in the Senate bill.
Of that total, about $23 billion would be used to replenish US weapons, stockpiles and facilities, and more than $11 billion would fund current US military operations in the region.
Nearly $14 billion included in the bill would help Ukraine buy advanced weapons systems and other defense equipment.

Tipping Point?

Today might be the tipping point in the Russo/Ukraine war. The US House of representatives voted for the 61 billion dollar aid package to Ukraine, the deal must now be signed off by the Senate and the President.
This decision is akin to Churchill's reaction when Adolf Hitler declared war on the USA in 1941. Churchill wrote in his memoirs that only then could he be completely sure the allies would win.
Now at last, we can we be certain Ukraine will win. With the USA, NATO, the UK, Europe and most of the UN supporting them Ukraine cannot lose. Russia, cannot sell or transport a large portion of its oil and gas, cannot refine its crude, cannot function on the world banking system, has a currency that is coinsidered worthless, climbing inflation and an army that is running out of men and materiel.
Russia hoped to wear Ukraine down and coerced proxies in various governments across the world to enable that strategy. The most important of all being the USA. Russia has failed because the moderate Republicans in Congress finally overwhelmed the extremists they refer to privately as 'The Crazies'. This important stance was combined with the sound and solid bipartisan approach of Democrats. This is the way democracies are supposed to function. United in the aim to do what is decent and best for the free world, not what is best for their wallets.
Perhaps one advantage that has come from the USA procrastinating is that it has forced the rest of the world (especially the UK) to realise how inadequate their armed forces are? Our dependency on the USA for defence must be measured by our ability to defend ourselves standing alone as we did in the South Atlantic in 1982.

The one thing Ukraine has not yet asked us for is our men. We might have to reconsider our position in that regard in the coming months if we are to ensure that Putin comes to the negotiation table and agrees to take his armies home.
Ultimately from all this, there is an old lesson for our leaders to learn again.
To prevent a war one must always be prepared for one!

Venstre-leder Guri Melby synes det er gledelig at USA har vedtatt en omfattende våpenpakke til Ukraina og sier Norge må følge i amerikanernes fotspor.
– Ukrainernes frihetskamp er for vår alles felles fred og sikkerhet, og Ukraina er helt avhengig av all den støtten de kan få i kampen mot Putins blodige angrepskamp, sier hun.
Nå mener Melby at også Norge må få opp støtten. Hun påpeker at Venstre hele tiden har sagt at Nansenprogrammet er et gulv – og ikke et tak.
Majoritetsleder i senatet, Chuck Schumer har sagt at de skal begynne stemme på hjelpepakkene førstkommende tirsdag. Regner med at Biden er klar for å godkjenne med en gang det går gjennom der.
Ja, det er det avgjørende slaget. Trump har allerede blitt stilt for riksrett en gang for å trosse kongressvedtak og sabotere hjelp til Ukraina.

Det er kanskje de missilene som behøves for å løsne den tyske forstoppelsen med å levere Taurus-missiler også.
Men då var også vilkårslaus kapitulasjon, altså total oppløysing av nazi-staten, eit eksplisitt krigsmål. Eg trur ingen har lyst til å okkupera Russland for å omorganisera og av-putifisera det.
Utover det er eg samd i at når fienden står djupt inne på ukrainsk territorium trengst det offensive våpen.Problemet med tyskerne er at de ble så grundig kastrert etter krigen at de ikke vil ta ansvar nå. Man kan til nød stå midt i klærne midt i flokken. Problemet med Taurus er at den faktisk kan bli brukt til å ta ut den brua. Og Russland kommer til å legge all skyld på Tyskland og Tyskland alene. Det blir rett og slett for mye for Berlin. Skal man sende Taurus må det komme mye tilsvarende materiell fra andre land som også har potensiale til å ta den brua. Tyskland er avhengig av å stå midt i flokken og kunne peke på alle andre når Putin begynner å bore. -
