Hm. Lite feedback fra de som eier TH-900 i Norge, så jeg limer inn noen meninger fra erfarne brukere:
Asr sin mening etter CanJam 2012:
Fostex TH900: I listened to Moon Audio's pair of these, from the same Stello CDT100 & Fostex HP-A8 setup as the M-100, so I actually went back and forth between the TH900 and M-100 quite a few times on various CD tracks.
Although the M-100 became my new favorite budget closed headphone, I have to hand out an even bigger award to the TH900, because these blew my mind!
I refused to believe the hype train on these headphones at first, but now I'm a convert, because they were some of the best dynamic headphones that I've ever heard, seriously. And the fact that they're closed is just icing on the cake, because most of the dynamic flagships are open designs. Though they didn't isolate that much, they didn't seem to leak much either, which was nice.
How to describe the sound of the TH900? I'd call it a close dynamic equivalent of the Stax SR-007A (OII MKI). I swore it got closer to the OII MKI than any other headphone that I've heard, and there were times it sounded spookily like the OII. Very natural-sounding, very balanced, and very "smooth", with very nice deep bass, enough that it actually satisfied for electronica. They did extremely well with just about every genre I threw at them from metal to jazz, classical to electronica, bluegrass to rock - so well that I couldn't believe it. I'm especially critical with classical music, but these handled the sound of a violin nearly perfectly, almost as well as the OII! They were literally like a dynamic OII to me - with nearly the same level of finesse for classical & jazz, yet perfectly capable of rocking out a bit to death and power metal (In Flames & Helloween).
The TH900 is my new favorite pair of high-end closed headphones! I'm now compelled to buy one for myself as part of my dynamic system, and I think if I'd never heard the OII/BHSE, it could easily be my final system too! In fact, one need not bother with a high-end electrostatic system with the TH900 - it's really almost as good, for less! What's not to like? And they were extremely comfortable to wear too, with very supple earpads. It was like wearing [censored] on my ears!
HeadphoneAddict:
Speaking of Fostex TH-900 - Last year after RMAF I griped about the prototype TH-900, saying that they had a sucked out midrange, sloppy bass, and tizzy treble, to the point where I told the Fostex people that I preferred the T50RP for those particular reasons. Well, they've been fixed. I actually don't have much to complain about the sound now. Well, okay maybe the treble is still slightly aggressive, but not in a fatiguing way. Bass control was much better with better speed and detail in the lows, and the mids were warmer and fuller than before. Transparency was excellent now, using the April Music DAC/amp combo (wish I could recall the name, because that's another standout item I heard). My second gripe is that closed headphones should isolate more of the outside noises, but even my LA7000 with thick wood cups don't isolate any better than these. Overall the sound is pretty competitive with what I recall hearing from my LA7000 closed phones. I need to hear the new Sony MDR1 that Jude has, and it would be neat to compare these. I'm probably not in the market for these, due to the price and all the high-end phones I already have.
Ahzari:
I still get impressed every time I put the TH900s on - the excitement does fade a bit as I listen to music for a while. They have this great instant gratification that fades into a stable impressiveness over the time spent in each session. But if you take a break for an hour or two and come back you'll be impressed all over again - dont know if that makes sense but thats how I feel with the TH900s (still very happy with the purchase).
MuppetFace:
The TH900 excels over the W3000ANV in terms of spatial reproduction (imaging, separation, etc.). It has a definite U-shaped coloration, but it's been refined to the point where it sounds great with a wide variety of genres IMHO. Still, not everyone wants a U-shape all the time. Fortunately, those who feel the bass is too emphasized on some tracks can adjust it with EQ easily, as the bass is very clean. Unfortunately, the midrange suckout isn't as easily fixable to my ears, and if one is particularly sensitive to this, then it doesn't matter how refined the TH900 is in other areas. Still, I'd say overall the TH900 is fairly adaptable and more versatile in that it varies more on a track by track basis.
The W3000ANV on the other hand is going to impart more of its unique presence on one's music. Its most apparent coloration is timbrel, the [in]famous Audio-Technica mids. This isn't really something you can EQ away if you don't like. However those who do like it are treated to an experience quite unlike anything any other flagship headphone currently on the market can give. Compared to the TH900, the midrange presentation is better. Its bass has plenty of impact and is tight, textured, and well-controlled (sounds rather lewd... : \ ), but I feel the TH900 trumps it there hands down. I think the TH900 is more refined up top as well. Overall, I think the TH900 is more consistentlyahead of the W3000ANV with respect to a wider array of criteria, but the W3000ANV does somethings better and in some respects provides an experience you can't find anywhere else. For better or worse.
So as much as it may sound like a copout, it's really something that depends on one's priorities. For me, the TH900 is the better headphone. I love both however.
