"All this series of Technics decks, 565, 665, 765, 965, 707, 808, 828, are designed around the same IC for rec/playback/line amp and muting/switching."
"RS B565/555 is considered to be best sounding in those models, probably because the simplest signal path, there is no notorious 4066 switching ICs, only AN7351K and Philips TEA0665 Dolby IC."
"The RS-B models were superior to their equivalents in the later RS-BX series. Better heads and better construction to begin with. Of course you have to compare apples with apples. For example I used to own an RS-B905...which was the direct replacement of their highly sought after B100...and the B905 was IMO a better (if not much better) deck than the BX828 and 808. I have never compared it to a B965 but that is not a BX piece.
True the newer ones may have some nicer features and perhaps be more stable and reliable on the electronics side, but overall the 1990s saw many if not all manufacturers cheapening their cassette decks (electronically and mechanically) and often masking the quality with better marketing."
"In its original state the RS-B565 is better sounding deck by far than any other deck of the BX- series. Main difference are: dolby chips and presence/absence of the 4066 switches. The 555/565 has better dolby chips and not even a single 4066 cmos switch. One of the best playback decks out there (sold my 3 head Naks to make more place for those 555/565 ;-) "
